19 families of Kalidanga village of Basanti Block in South 24 Parganas District who were absolutely land less and living on government land for last 40 years received entitlement on their dwelling land from government after much struggle on 5th March, 2024. 30 such families are living on government land without any legal entitlements for last 40 years in 'Purba Colony' area of Kalidanga village. They failed to get entitlement of their dwelling land after years of appealing and visiting of local government offices at block and panchayat. When SPAN identified this issue before three years it encourage those families, particularly women to form their organisation and unitedly appeal to the local government for the rights of their dwelling land. The women council thus formed unitedly start demanding for their land entitlement and declare to boycott election if their demand not fulfilled. Finally their demand has been considered. 19 families have received Patta (lease entitlement) on their dwelling land and others will get soon. This is a big achievement of local women council.
