Skill Training for Youth

Training on Domestic Data Entry Operator Course at Mal, Jalpaiguri

Reinforcing the aim to focus on the youths as the key drivers of change their need for leadership  and  skill development has emerged as a imperative. The low aspiration and self-esteem of the youth is caused by the excluded life in the backward regions of Bankura, Purulia and Jalpaiguri where the existing opportunities are rare and few. The need for the educated youth to be prepared for diverse livelihood options gets limited with the limited availability of opportunities. There is a lack of institutions for skill development in the area and if available, the quality of its training is poor.  This has been the cause of frustration, disillusion that further leads to under employment of the youth in the tea garden and also indulgence in drug and alcohol.

SPAN intends to bridge the skill gap through facilitating the access to skill training. A programme designed for enabling them to contribute to their society, develop their  self confidence and prepare them for appropriate jobs for the youth.

However, SPAN and Anandadhara Kaj Kendra are the two main agencies that run the Skill training projects at Jalpaiguri, Kolkata, North 24 Parganas and Bankura at the moment.
