A significant initiative aimed at strengthening education and empowerment among rural youth was launched with the formal inauguration of the GYANKENDRA (‘Knowledge Center’) at the Sonadhap Panchayat Bhavan, located in Shikaripara Block of Dumka District, Jharkhand. The center was inaugurated by the Panchayat Pradhan, in the presence of representatives from the Society for People’s Awareness (SPAN) on 5th February, 2026.
Representing SPAN at the inaugural ceremony were Coordinator Rajkumar, Field Worker Reena Soren, and Trainer Reena Marandi. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of young men and women belonging to various villages under Sonadhap Panchayat, reflecting strong community interest and support for the initiative.
The GYANKENDRA is a flagship initiative of the Panchayati Raj Department, Government of Jharkhand, designed to function as a mini-library and learning center at the village level. The center will provide access to books, magazines, newspapers, and current affairs materials, particularly benefiting youth preparing for competitive examinations without the need to migrate to urban areas.
During the program, SPAN representatives briefed the participants on the key objectives of the Knowledge Center, which include:
- Digital literacy and free educational support to connect underprivileged children and youth with modern technology and learning resources
- Awareness of government welfare schemes to ensure better access and utilization by villagers
- Promotion of social awareness, addressing critical issues such as sanitation, health, employment opportunities, and gender equality
The Panchayat Pradhan and SPAN representatives emphasized that the Knowledge Center would play a crucial role in enabling rural youth to pursue academic and career aspirations locally. As a voluntary organization, SPAN will be responsible for the effective operation and implementation of the center’s activities, ensuring sustained community engagement and impact.
