West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights (WBCPCR) released a draft Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 and other related Acts on 23rd August, 2025 at Rotary Sadan, Kolkata. The SOP was drafted together with Campaign Against Child Labour (CACL) – West Bengal Chapter where SPAN as convener of CACL has taken the lead role. The SOP released in presence of honourable Chairperson of WBCPCR Ms. Tulida Das, Additional Secretary of Department of Labour, Representatives of SALSA, CACL West Bengal Convener Mr. Prabir Basu, CWCs, DCPUs, SJPUs from different districts and NGOs working of child rights.
The Need, use and content of the SOP was presented it was followed by a panel discussion on the role of Stakeholders on enforcement of Child labour Act. The Panel discussion was moderated by Mrs. Ananya Chakraborty, honourable Advisor of WBCPCR and participated by the representative from SALSA, SJPU, State Labour Department and International Justice Mission.
WBCPCR invited suggestions and feedback from all on the draft SOP within 22nd September, 2025 and then the SOP will be finalized and the final version will be made public. WBCPCR hope that this SOP would be an useful tool for all the stakeholders towards enforcement of law to ensure justice to child labour as well as ensure their rehabilitation and mainstreaming to the society.
