Rural Livelihood and peoples’ Control over Natural Resources

The districts Murshidabad, Birbhum, Bankura and Jalpaiguri are some of the most backward areas in terms of social, political and economic development. These areas are vulnerable specifically in terms of Livelihood and Governance. People’ control over natural resources and equal access to their rights and entitlement; the participation in the decision-making process and the functioning of local self-government is very low. Project has been able to take a multi dimensional approach while addressing the livelihood issues of the target people, for reducing poverty and increasing self help capacities among the poor through natural resource management. Adequate focus was put both on the issue of increasing participation and broadening citizenship, as well as a focus on the management of public goods and equality in access for citizen.
