live-img2-bigTulsi Hembrom was found as an abandoned girl in deplorable health condition in Gurkata Nimra village of Rajnagar block of Birbhum District in the month of March 2015. The eight years old girl has lost her mother seven months ago while her father left her and her mother long ago. When identified by SPAN the girl had no one to take care of her. She was not in any school, her health condition was bad and she was prone to all kind of abuse. SPAN immediately took this issue with the village youth group and village council. The child protection mechanism under ICPS and how it could be beneficial for Tulsi was discussed in village council. SPAN was able to mobilise villagers to send a mass application to the Gram Panchayet Pradhan and local Block Development Officer seeking government assistance and support for Tulsi. The Panchayet Pradhan and BDO recommended the case to the District Child Welfare Committee (CWC). Four of the villagers with Panchayet member accompanied Tulsi in the meeting of Child Welfare Committee. The government Child Protection mechanism worked urgently in this matter and placed Tulsi at Asha Short Stay Home in Suri to ensure her protection and education. Now Tulshi is studying at class II with great enthusiasm and good health.
